Daily Market Highlights (01.10.10)

  • Local equity market in positive territory for the third time this week. MSE Share Index up 0.3% today to close at 3,395.689 points as HSBC gains 0.9%. Meanwhile all the other four active equities close unchanged. Index ends the week 0.5% higher following increases in IHI (2.4%) and BOV (0.3%). Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • A further €2.89 million transacted across Malta Government Stocks particularly in the 20-year government paper. Prices decline marginally today but long-dated bonds close the week higher. A total €18.3 million (nominal) MGS changed hands this week.
  • Fresh bids lift HSBC’s share price 0.9% higher to regain the €2.855 level – unchanged over the week. Just under 4,100 shares exchanged this morning with further offers unsatisfied at the closing price whilst best bids still pitched at the €2.83 level.
  • Another 9,274 BOV shares trade at the €3.24 level. Best bids still in the market at €3.23 whilst lowest offers now at the €3.25 level. Equity closes the week 0.3% higher.
  • Middlesea Insurance edges minimally higher at the opening of today’s session but eases back to the €0.93 level, unchanged from the previous close. Just over 4,000 shares trade today with further outstanding bids at the last traded price and lowest offers now placed a the €0.95 level. Insurance equity also unchanged over the week.
  • IHI also maintains the €0.85 level across five transactions totalling 7,500 shares. Further offers remaining unsatisfied at the closing price whilst best bids still in the market at the €0.81 level. Equity closes the week 2.4% higher. IHI is shortly expected to announce the take of its buy back offer.
  • MIA fails to recover from yesterday’s 2.6% drop to close today’s session unchanged at the €1.50 level on volumes of 15,000 shares. Equity down 1.4% this week and ranks as the worst performing equity during the past five sessions.
  • Yesterday, FIMBank announced that it has submitted an application to the Listing Authority for an issue of 4.25% 2013 Bonds denominated in both EUR and USD. Further details available here.
