Daily Market Highlights (06.10.09)

  • MSE Share Index slides a further 1% to close at the €3,131.338 points level as index heavyweights BOV, HSBC and GO trade lower. Meanwhile RS2 Software edges higher with FIMBank closing unchanged. Weak volumes persist on the equity side. On the other hand various corporate bonds active and further high volumes traded in some of the active Malta Government Stocks.   • HSBC sheds 1.8% for the second consecutive session as fresh supply forces the Bank’s share price back to the €2.70 level. Increased volumes of over 30,700 shares exchanged today with best bids now placed at €2.655 and lowest offers in the market at €2.73.
  • Negative run in BOV continues  on a single trade of 750 shares  at  €3.33 level  (- 0.6% ). Best bids at €3.301 with lowest offers now pitched at the €3.34 level. The Bank’s full-year results publication is expected by the end of October.
  • GO slumps 4.9% to the €1.50 level. Just under 10,300 shares traded today with few other bids remaining unsatisfied at the closing price whilst lowest offers now in the market at the €1.52 level.
  • FIMBank closes unchanged at US$1.20 after recovering from an intraday low of US$1. 19. Five trades amounting to 8,152 shares transacted this morning with further offers at the closing price.
  • RS2 Software rises 3.5% to €0.62 as it trades for the first time in two weeks. A single trade of 973 shares transacted this morning with no bids in sight and further shares on offer at the last trade price.
  • Last week Simonds Farsons Cisk published its financial statements for the six months ended 31 July 2009. The results show a significant improvement in the Group’s profitability from €982,000 registered last year to €1,807,000 for the first half of the current financial year which ends on 31 January 2010. The Directors declared an interim dividend of €0.01 out of tax exempt profits to shareholders as at close of trading on Tuesday 6 October. Further details available here.
