Daily Market Highlights (10.12.09)

  • MSE Share Index inches closer to its 2009 high of 3,418.579 points reached on 26 November as it rises by a further 0.4% to 3,397.434 points. Gains in IHI and MaltaPost push Index higher today offsetting declines in Middlesea and Simonds Farsons Cisk. Meanwhile the share prices of the two big banks and GO close unchanged.   • IHI recoups a further 2.5% to regain the €0.82 level as it trades higher for the second consecutive session. Two trades amounting to 1,750 shares transacted this morning with further offers remaining unsatisfied at the closing price and highest bids at €0.751.
  • BOV closes unchanged at the €3.70 level after opening today’s session at €3.71. Subdued activity persists in BOV as only 2,900 shares exchanged today with best bids already placed higher at €3.71 whilst lowest offers now pitched at the €3.75 level. Last week BOV published the agenda for the forthcoming Annual General Meeting scheduled for 16 December. Amongst the resolutions, shareholders will be asked to approve the final gross dividend of €0.215 per share and a 1 for 4 bonus issue.
  • HSBC also unchanged at the €3.25 level on total volumes of just under 15,500 shares. Best bids now placed at €3.211 whilst further offers outstanding at the closing price.
  • GO closes unchanged at the €1.99 level after touching an intra-day low of €1.987. Just under 13,800 shares change hands this morning with best bids at €1.97 whilst further offers remain in the market at the closing price. Yesterday GO announced that it has secured exclusive rights to broadcast the Italian Serie A matches for the next two football seasons – 2010/11 and 2011/12. This follows last week’s announcement that it secured exclusive local broadcasting rights for England’s Premier League for the three football seasons 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13.
  • Further volatility in Middlesea shares as the equity closes in negative territory today. Share price drops 0.8% to a close of €0.63 on volumes of just 3,000 shares . Best bids now in the market at €0.602 whilst further offers remain unsatisfied at the last traded price. Rights Issue subscription period closes next Monday 14 December.   • Simonds Farsons Cisk sheds 1.2% to €1.63 as it trades for the first time in almost a month. A single trade of 1,395 shares transacted this morning with best bids already placed higher at €1.648.
  • MaltaPost edges minimally higher to €0.651 on volumes of 2,000 shares. The postal operator is scheduled to publish its September 2009 full-year results on 21 January.
  • The Mizzi Organisation Finance plc €30 million bond issue is shortly expected to commence trading. Further details on the allotment policy available here.
