Daily Market Highlights (16.12.09)

  • MSE Share Index six session positive run comes to a halt as it marginally retreats to 3,434.602 points this morning. Index pushed lower by BOV’s 0.5% decline which offset Lombard’s 0.7% increase. Meanwhile the other four active equities, including heavyweights HSBC and GO, close unchanged. Subdued volumes persist in the local equity market. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • BOV’s share price sheds 0.5% to drop back to the €3.78 level on low volumes of 4,700 shares. Best bids now placed at the €3.75 level whilst further offers remain unsatisfied at the closing price. BOV will this afternoon be convening its 36th Annual General Meeting. Amongst the resolutions, shareholders will be asked to approve the final gross dividend of €0.215 per share and a 1 for 4 bonus issue. The dividend will then be distributed to all shareholders on Thursday 17 December.
  • Meanwhile HSBC closes unchanged at the €3.25 level on ten trades amounting to 10,540 shares. Best bids now pitched at €3.20 whilst further offers outstanding at the last closing price.
  • Lombard edges a further 0.7% to a fresh 2009 high of €2.89 on volumes of 7,000 shares. Best bids still in the market at €2.88 whilst lowest offers now pitched at the €2.90 level.
  • Following three consecutive positive sessions, GO’s share price today traded unchanged at its 2009 high of €2.06. Two trades amounting to just 3,200 shares transacted this morning with best bids now placed at €2.025 whilst lowest offers in the market at the €2.08 level. Equity increased by 6.2% since the telecoms Group announcement on 1 December that it has secured exclusive local broadcasting rights for England’s Premier League for the three football seasons 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13. This was shortly followed by a second announcement that GO will also have exclusive broadcasting rights for the Italian Serie A matches of the next two football seasons. Forthnet also confirmed last week that it secured England’s Premier League for the three football seasons 2010/11, 2011/12 and 2012/13.
  • Simonds Farsons Cisk closes unchanged at the €1.70 level after touching an intra-day high of €1.71. Just over 2,500 shares changed hands this morning with few bids at €1.535 whilst further offers remain outstanding at the closing price.
  • FIMBank maintains the US$1.16 level on a single trade of 1,720 shares.
