Daily Market Highlights (18.10.11)

  • MSE Share Index down by 0.2% during this morning’s session to 3,116.057 points as declines in GO, FIMBank and RS2 Software offset the increases in the share prices of HSBC, BOV and Lombard.   • On the bond market, the Rizzo Farrugia MGS Index gained 0.6% to 986.088 points reflecting the sharp reversal in yields back to just above the 2% level from a 3-month high of 2.256% registered yesterday following comments made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel over the ability of European leaders to solve the debt crisis.
  • FIMBank’s share price down 10.4% to a new 7-year low of US$0.67 across 14,000 shares. The trade finance specialist is expected to publish its Interim Statement in the coming weeks.
  • GO also plunged 4.6% to its all-time low of €1.05 across four trades amounting to just over 4,000 shares. Best bids now placed at just above the €1.00 level whilst lowest offers in the market at €1.089. Equity still ranks at the worst performer since the beginning of 2011 with a year to date drop of 45.7% in line with the widening losses at Forthnet and the reduced dividend to shareholders.
  • A single trade of 1,000 RS2 Software shares executed at the €0.58 level representing a 3.2% drop from the previous close. Further bids unsatisfied at the last traded price whilst lowest offers now placed at the equity’s 2011 high of €0.60.
  • BOV share price up by 0.2% to €2.46 across sixteen trades totalling 20,350 shares. This morning the Bank announced that its Board of Directors is scheduled to meet on Friday 28 October to approve the financial statements for the year ended 30 September 2011 and to consider the recommendation of a final dividend.
  • HSBC’s share price advances by 0.8% to the €2.66 level on volumes of 10,970 shares. Further offers unsatisfied at the closing price whilst best bids now pitched at €2.642.
  • Lombard Bank’s equity recovers from an intra-day low of €2.63 to close 1.1% higher at the €2.75 level. 22,000 shares exchanged today with further offers unsatisfied at the closing price whilst best bids in the market at the €2.58 level.
  • No change in the share price of MIA as the equity held on to its 3-month high of €1.70 on volumes of just under 25,000 shares. Lowest offers now placed at €1.75.
  • Similarly, IHI traded unchanged at the €0.815 level across two trades totalling 18,874 shares.
