Daily Market Highlights (20.07.2016)

  • The MSE Share Index closed in positive territory for the first time in the last seven trading sessions today as it rebounded by 0.51% to 4,488.268 points. Trading was spread across nine equities, with four registering gains, another four shares closing unchanged whilst only Lombard finished lower.   • On the bond market, the RF MGS Index extended yesterday’s gains by a further 0.11% to a one-week high of 1,157.423 points. Euro zone sovereign bond yields continued to trade broadly lower today. In particular, the 10-year Spanish government bond yield declined by nearly 5 basis points to 1.149% today from 1.196% yesterday.
  • A single deal of 10,000 shares pushed the equity of FIMBank plc up by 2.0% to yet another seven-year high of USD1.02. The trade finance specialist will reveal its interim results on 9 August.
  • Also in the banking sector, Bank of Valletta plc and HSBC Bank Malta plc both registered gains today. BOV erased yesterday’s decline as it recaptured the €2.20 level (+1.0%) on thin volumes totalling just 1,047 shares.
  • On the other hand, HSBC Bank Malta plc advanced by 0.7% to the €1.561 level across 13,900 shares. HSBC will publish its interim results on 3 August.
  • RS2 Software plc climbed 0.8% from yesterday’s four-month low of €2.02 to the €2.037 level across 9,435 shares.
  • In contrast, two deals totalling 9,300 shares pulled the equity of Lombard Bank Malta plc 0.2% lower to the €2.20 level. Lombard will publish its 2016 half-yearly results on 25 August.
  • Meanwhile, four equities closed today’s trading session unchanged. In the property segment, MIDI plc (13,400 shares) and Malta Properties Company plc (500 shares) maintained the €0.377 and €0.51 levels respectively.
  • A single deal of 1,385 shares left the equity of Simonds Farsons Cisk plc unchanged at the €6.28 level.
  • Similarly, Medserv plc maintained its 2016 high of €1.84 across 5,400 shares.
  • The bond issue of International Hotel Investments plc closed this morning and the market now awaits the allocation policy to be published in the coming days.
