MSE Equity Price Index trends higher on lacklustre volumes

 

The MSE Equity Price Index advanced by a further 0.08% to 3,660.157 points as the uplift in the share price of HSBC offset the drop in Medserv whilst BOV, MIA and MPC closed the day unchanged. A single deal of just 765 shares lifted the share price of HSBC Bank Malta plc 3.4% higher to the €0.765 level.

Within the same sector, Bank of Valletta plc held on the €0.85 level across 6,050 shares.

Also among the large companies by market value, Malta International Airport plc traded flat at the €5.95 level albeit on just 165 shares.

Malta Properties Company plc stayed at the €0.52 level across 2,500 shares.

Meanwhile, MedservRegis plc slid 6.3% to the €0.82 level after opening at a low of €0.585. A total of 15,160 shares traded.

The RF MGS Index extended its recent negative trend as it slipped by a further 0.52% to a near five-week low of 935.460 points. Investor sentiment across international financial markets continued to be dented by the uncertainties in relation to the extent of how much the US Federal Reserve is likely to continue to tighten monetary policy in the coming months. Elsewhere in Europe, gas prices surged to a new record high ahead of a three-day closure of the main supply pipeline from Russia next week.
