Daily Market Highlights (28.09.16)

  • The MSE Share Index closed higher for the fifth consecutive trading session as it advanced by a further 0.05% to a fresh three-week high of 4,459.467 points. The positive performance of the Index reflects the gains in the share prices of Malta Properties and FIMBank which together outweighed the marginal decline in BOV. Trading volumes fell notably from yesterday’s eleven-week high as only €0.11 million worth of shares changed hands today. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • On the bond market, the RF MGS Index advanced by a further 0.15% (the sixth consecutive gain) to reach a new all-time high of 1,176.822 points as euro zone sovereign yields remain depressed. In particular, the ten-year yield of Spain hit a new record low of 0.874% today. The indicative bid prices quoted by the Central Bank of Malta for fifteen different Malta Government Stocks reached fresh record highs today. The indicative bid price of 2.4% MGS 2041 (I) was of 108.11% while the security touched a new record of 109.50% today.
  • Malta Properties Company plc extended yesterday’s gains by a further 1.6% and climbed to a new four-month high of €0.569 on volumes totalling 20,000 shares.
  • A single deal of 10,000 shares lifted the equity of FIMBank plc back to the USD0.91 level (+1.1%).
  • In contrast, Bank of Valletta plc posted a marginal drop of 0.2% and ended the day at the €2.256 level across 4,650 shares.
  • Within the same segment, HSBC Bank Malta plc maintained the €1.62 level on 3,444 shares.
  • Also among the large companies, GO plc (620 shares) and Malta International Airport plc (14,477 shares) traded flat at €3.20 and €4.26 respectively. Yesterday, Ryanair launched its 2017 summer schedule and announced that the six new winter routes to Brussels, Catania, Nuremberg, Toulouse, Valencia and Vilnius will be retained all-year round. The new flights will be increasing the airline’s summer schedule by 20%, bringing the total number of routes to 42. Moreover, Ryanair will also be increasing flight frequency to Dublin and East Midland and adding an aircraft to its Malta routes.
  • Malita Investments plc also closed unchanged as it held on to the €0.87 level on two deals of 7,000 shares.
  • Simonds Farsons Cisk plc is expected to reveal its interim results today.
  • This afternoon, Plaza Centres plc announced that it completed the acquisition of the ‘Tigne Place’, Sliema having a total rentable area of 3,279 sqm apart from underlying car spaces.
