Daily Market Highlights (28.12.09)

  • Local equity market kicks off the last trading week of the year in positive territory. MSE Share Index rises 0.1% to close at yet another fresh 2009 high of 3,447.971 points as 5 of today’s active equities gain. Meanwhile GO and Middlesea decline with IHI and RS2 closing unchanged.   • High trading activity in BOV shares ahead of the 1 for 4 bonus share issue to those shareholders as at close of trading on 12 January 2010. Over 30,000 shares exchanged today helping the equity close marginally higher at the €3.80 level.
  • HSBC share price edges 0.5% higher to €3.25 on lower volumes of 8,000 shares.
  • GO’s share price closes today’s session 0.4% lower at €2.10 on some profit-taking following the strong upturn in recent weeks. Just over 4,200 shares exchanged today. Despite the share price decline in the last two sessions, GO’s equity is still 8.3% higher this month and 50% higher than its 2009 low of €1.40.
  • Lombard rises a further 0.7% to another new 2009 high of €2.99. The gains in the last three months have helped the equity recover the declines since the start of the year as the share price heads towards the €3.00 level. Volumes remain low with only 2,000 shares exchanged this morning. Last week the Bank announced that its Board of Directors is scheduled to meet on 11 March 2010 to approve the Group’s 2009 full-year results and to declare a final dividend.
  • MIA’s share price increases by 2.1% to €2.40 on volumes of just below 4,400 shares. Best bids in the market at €2.36 whilst further offers remain unsatisfied at the closing price.
  • IHI continues to trade at the €0.80 level on increased volumes of 26,750 shares. Best bids now at the €0.789 level whilst further supply emerges at the last trading price.
  • Intensified selling pressure forces Middlesea Insurance to shed 5.1% to €0.75 after touching an intra-day high of €0.80. Just under 18,000 shares changed hands today with highest bids placed at €0.71 and lowest offers pitched at the €0.788 level.
  • Single trades executed in GlobalCapital and RS2 Software. GlobalCapital in positive territory for the third successive session with a 5.5% increase to the €1.35 level. Meanwhile RS2 Software trades unchanged at its all-time low of €0.557 level on volumes of 1,900 shares.
