Minimal trading volumes in local equities
The MSE Equity Price Index increased by 0.10% to 3,748.267 points as the gains in APS and the ordinary shares of RS2 outweighed the decline in BOV. APS Bank plc gained 1.8% to the €0.575 level on a single deal of 3,510 shares.
The ordinary shares of RS2 plc surged by 6.4% to the €0.50 level across three deals amounting to 7,500 shares.
Bank of Valletta plc shed 0.6% to the €1.70 level across five trades totalling 25,128 shares.
Meanwhile, Malta International Airport plc traded flat at the €5.85 level on two deals amounting to 1,055 shares. Yesterday, MIA announced that it welcomed 630,637 passengers during November 2024, an increase of 19.2% compared to the corresponding month last year. The seat load factor also improved by 0.7 percentage points to 85.6%, despite an increase of 18.3% in seat capacity over the same month in 2023. The passenger movements during the eleven-month period ended November 2024 amounted to 8.37 million, 15.0% higher than the passenger traffic recorded in the same period last year.
Harvest Technology plc held the €0.85 level on a single trade of 2,384 shares.
The RF MGS Index fell by 0.2% to 927.212 points. Today, the ECB cut its deposit rate by 25 basis points to 3.00%. The fourth consecutive rate cut was driven by concerns of economic weakness and political uncertainty. In fact, the ECB trimmed its inflation forecast for 2024 to 2.4% from 2.5%, whilst the projection for 2025 was lowered to 2.1% from 2.2%. Economic growth expectations were also reduced to 0.7% from 0.8% in 2024 and 1.1% from 1.3% in 2025. Meanwhile in the US, data released today showed that producer prices increased by 3.0% during November which was higher than the anticipated 2.6% and the highest level since February 2023. Furthermore, core producer prices grew by 3.4% compared to the 3.2% which was forecasted.
