MSE Equity Price Index advances to a two-week high
Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.
The MSE Equity Price Index rose by 1.0% to a two-week high of 3,990.2 points as the gains in VBL, MaltaPost, Quinco, FIMBank, Malta Properties, Malita, BOV, BMIT and Medserv outweighed the decline in Mapfre Middlesea. Meanwhile, six equities closed unchanged as today’s total trading activity totalled €0.16 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

The RF MGS Index fell by 0.29% to 894.293 points as oil prices rose for the third consecutive session as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remained elevated. Elsewhere in the US, the 10-year treasury yield rose above 4.5% as data released today showed that the labour market in the US was more resilient than expected with both more than expected private sector jobs added as well as openings, both reinforcing expectations that the federal reserve could raise the federal funds rate later during the year. In this respect, markets are now pricing in an 85% probability of a rate hike by year end (after holding it stable at 3.50%-3.75% for the last three consecutive meetings), compared to 60% a week ago.
