Following last week's article detailing the performance of the S&P 500 index in 2025, it is worth devoting time to review the developments across the European equity markers in my last article of the year.

The MSE Equity Price Index fell by 0.68% to a two-month low of 3,917.2 points as the declines in twelve equities outweighed the gain in FIMBank. Meanwhile, three equities closed unchanged as today’s trading activity amounted to €0.2 million. Download today’s Equity Market Summary.

VBL plc plummeted by 15.2% to the €0.195 level on a single deal of 14,500 shares.

Also in the property sector, Malta Properties Company plc shed 3.2% to the €0.366 level across three trades totalling 6,470 shares.

Malita Investments plc declined by 1.9% to the €0.314 level on a single deal of 2,000 shares.

MIDI plc eased by 1.7% to the €0.226 level on a single deal of 15,000 shares.

The ordinary shares of RS2 plc fell by 13.8% to the €0.25 level across five trades totalling 17,308 shares.

APS Bank plc slipped by 0.9% to the €0.56 level across thirteen trades amounting to 22,738 shares.

Also in the banking sector, Bank of Valletta plc decreased by 0.5% to the €2.01 level across sixteen trades totalling 68,647 shares. Last Friday, BOV announced that following the publication of a Base Prospectus for a €650 million Euro Medium Term Note Programme, the bank published the Term Sheet for an issue of €300 million 4.467% Fixed Rate Reset Callable Senior Preferred Notes due 28 May 2032. The Notes are expected to be rated BBB by Fitch Ratings. The order book peaked at approximately €0.8 billion (2.6x oversubscription) and closed at around €0.6 billion (2.0x oversubscription), highlighting robust appetite for the Bank’s credit and the strength of investor confidence in its business model. The Bank will, subject to regulatory approval, have the right to call the Notes in whole, but not in part, on 28 May 2031. If not called, interest on the Notes will be reset at a margin of 150 basis points plus the one-year euro mid-swap rate on 28 May 2031.

BOV’s associate Mapfre Middlesea plc eased by 0.7% to the €1.35 level across three trades totalling 3,168 shares.

MaltaPost plc declined by 1.8% to the €0.432 level across five trades totalling 29,952 shares.

Malta International Airport plc fell by 0.8% to the €6.05 level across two trades totalling 1,052 shares.

PG plc declined by 0.6% to the €1.60 level across two trades totalling 3,244 shares.

Grand Harbour Marina plc eased by 1.0% to the €0.99 level over trivial volumes. Last Friday, GHM published an updated Financial Analysis Summary which included the forecasts for 2026. Revenues are expected to increase by 5.7% to €5.45 million from €5.16 million last year. The increase in berthing revenue reflects the higher contractual annual tariffs and an increase in electricity recharges, which outweighed the fact that occupancy levels for 2026 are anticipated to be marginally lower than those achieved in 2025. EBITDA is forecasted to increase by 8.0% to €2.31 million compared to €2.14 million last year. GHM’s share of profits from its investment in the Turkish marina IC Çeşme is expected to amount to €1.92 million compared to €2.01 million last year against a backdrop of continued macroeconomic uncertainties in Turkey.

On the other hand, FIMBank plc advanced by 7.4% to USD0.145 on a single deal of 15,616 shares.

Meanwhile,

AX Real Estate plc closed unchanged at the €0.49 level on muted activity.

Hili Properties plc traded flat at the €0.27 level across two trades totalling 22,200 shares.

M&Z plc held the €0.60 level on a single deal of 160 shares.

The RF MGS Index rose by 0.44% to 895.565 points as sovereign bond yields retreated on growing optimism that a US-Iran deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz can be finalised. In this respect, oil prices fell by more than 6% to below $98 a barrel. Currently markets are pricing in two ECB rate hikes before the end of the current year as the ECB aims to balance out rising inflation with the slowing economy in the euro area.
