Daily Market Highlights (06.11.2018)

  • The MSE Equity Price Index added 0.4% to 4,466.160 points, largely reflecting the gains in the share prices of BOV, FIMBank and GO whilst only Plaza Centres trended lower. Meanwhile, several other equities closed the day unchanged including MIA, HSBC and RS2. Trading volumes improved notably to a near three-week high of €0.43 million.   • The RF MGS Index eased minimally to 1,082.917 points today as sovereign bonds yields in the euro area remained relatively unchanged from yesterday. On the economic front, new data was issued most of which was positive. In particular, an index gauging the level of confidence among purchasing managers in the manufacturing and services sectors in the euro zone rebounded strongly in October from a two-year low the previous month.
  • Bank of Valletta plc regained the €1.35 level (+0.7%) on volumes totalling 37,355 shares.
  • Within the same sector, FIMBank plc climbed 1.3% to the USD0.78 level across 84,620 shares.
  • GO plc also performed positively today as the equity surged 2% to the €4.08 level albeit on weak volumes. An Extraordinary General Meeting is being held on 3 December 2018 in relation to the proposed sale of up to 49% of GO’s shareholding in BMIT Technologies plc through an Initial Public Offering.
  • Similarly, Loqus Holdings plc added 13.3% to the €0.085 level on just 3,000 shares.
  • In the property sector, Plaza Centres plc retreated by 1% back to the €1.03 level across 3,000 shares.
  • In contrast, both Malta Properties Company plc (118,060 shares) and Main Street Complex plc (122,329 shares) traded unchanged at €0.52 and €0.65 respectively.
  • Five deals totalling 22,130 shares left the equity of Malta International Airport plc at the €6.10 level. The company is soon expected to publish the October traffic results which also coincides with the end of the summer 2018 season.
  • Also among the large companies, HSBC Bank Malta plc held on to the €1.75 level across 9,977 shares.
  • PG plc (€1.36), RS2 Software plc (€1.14) and Santumas Shareholdings plc (€1.41) all closed flat on insignificant volumes.
