Daily Market Highlights (19.07.2018)

  • The MSE Equity Price Index eased by 0.01% to 4,375.055 points today as the drop in GO minimally outweighed the gains in HSBC, IHI and Malita. Meanwhile, six other equities ended the day unchanged. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • The RF MGS Index retreated by 0.09% from its two-month high to 1,104.523 points as sovereign euro bond yields rebounded slightly following yesterday’s sharp drop.
  • The only negative performing equity today was GO plc as it shed 1.2% to the €3.40 level across 3,300 shares.
  • On the other hand, HSBC Bank Malta plc regained the €1.84 level (+0.5%) on volumes totalling 15,900 shares. HSBC Malta is set to publish its interim results on 6 August.
  • International Hotel Investments plc surged 4.9% at the opening of today’s session to reach €0.645 but subsequently eased to the €0.625 level which still represents a 1.6% over the previous closing price. A total of 7,250 shares changed hands.
  • In the property segment, Malita Investments plc climbed 2.4% to recapture the €0.87 level on two deals totalling 5,693 shares.
  • Meanwhile, Malta Properties Company plc maintained its two-month low of €0.48 level across 110,000 shares.
  • A single deal of 2,730 shares left the equity of Simonds Farsons Cisk plc at its five-month high of €7.30. On Monday, Farsons published an updated Financial Analysis Summary revealing that EBITDA is expected to reach yet another record level of €22.4 million in the current financial year ending 31 January 2019. On the other hand, Farsons is forecasting a slight drop in net profits to €13.2 million mostly due to higher depreciation and administrative costs.
  • Malta International Airport plc (8,000 shares) and Bank of Valletta plc (5,139 shares) traded unchanged at the €5.00 and €1.76 levels respectively. MIA is due to publish its interim results on 25 July whilst BOV is soon expected to announce the date for the publication of its interim financial statements.
  • Low volumes transacted in Medserv plc and Tigne’ Mall plc as both equities ended the day unchanged at the €1.15 and €0.95 levels respectively.
  • Tomorrow, Mapfre Middlesea plc kick-starts the local 2018 interim reporting season as the company is scheduled to unveil its performance for the six-month period ended 30 June.
