Malta International Airport plc - November Traffic Results

On 5 December, Malta International Airport plc published the November 2014 traffic results, revealing a 2.9% increase in passenger movements when compared to November 2013. During November 2014 a record 256,305 passengers passed through the airport terminal. This was attributable to the 4 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 80.4% which offset a 1.8% drop in aircraft movements.

UK was still the top market for MIA with passengers from this country during the month under review rising by 3.8%. Similarly, passenger movements from Italy and Germany increased by 2.5% and 2.8% respectively. Turkey established itself as the fifth major market in November, with a 75.3% growth given the increased capacity on this route with daily flights to and from Istanbul.

Markus Klaushofer, the CEO of MIA noted that the November statistics proves that the country’s strategy to drive traffic during the off-peak season is reaping the desired results.

January to November 2014

Since the beginning of the year, MIA saw an increase of 6.5% in passenger movements when compared to the same period in 2013, hosting a total of 4,063,836 passengers.

In its latest Interim Directors’ Statement published on 13 November the Company indicated that it is anticipating another record for the full year 2014. Passenger movements are expected to grow by around 5.9% to over 4.2 million passengers compared to the July forecast of +4.2%.
