Malta International Airport plc - March Traffic Results

On 5 April, Malta International Airport plc published the March 2013 traffic results. The statistics reveal a 12.3% increase in passenger movements to 249,360 when compared to the same month last year. The increased passenger traffic was due to a 5.6 percentage point rise in the average seat load factor to 77.9%, a 4.3% growth in capacity to 320,139 seats and some Easter-period related travel which last year occurred in April.

The airport operator stated that double-digit growth was registered by the Libyan (+47.3%), French (+25.8%), Italian (+16.1%) and British (+14.4%) markets. A 6.1% increase in German passengers was also recorded in March.

Combining the statistics of the first three months, MIA registered an 8.6% increase in passenger movements to 605,421 when compared to the first quarter of 2012 on the back of a 4.1% increase in seat capacity as well as a 3 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 72.1%.
