Malta International Airport plc - April Traffic Results

On 6 May, Malta International Airport plc published the April 2013 traffic results. The statistics reveal an 8.9% increase in passenger movements to 331,369, when compared to the same month last year. This is a record number of passenger movements for the month of April notwithstanding that the comparative period last year included Easter-related travel. The increased passenger traffic in April 2013 was due to a 10.7% increase in seat capacity to 440,430 seats while the seat load factor eased by 1.3 percentage points to 75.2%.

The airport operator stated that double-digit growth was registered by the Italian market with a 13.8% increase in passenger movements. The UK (+3.6%) and Spanish (+0.8%) markets also registered growth during the month under review. Meanwhile, the German and French markets reported declines of 3.2% and 0.7% respectively.

Combining the statistics of the first four months of the year, MIA registered an 8.7% increase in passenger movements to 936,657 when compared to the same period of 2012 on the back of a 6.3% increase in seat capacity to 1.28 million seats as well as a 1.7 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 75.2%.
