Malta International Airport plc - June Traffic Results

On 4 July, Malta International Airport plc published the June 2013 traffic results. The statistics reveal a 9.7% increase in passenger movements to 411,851 – a record number of passenger movements for the month of June. The growth in passenger traffic in June 2013 was due to a 9.2% increase in seat capacity to 517,275 seats and the rise in the seat load factor by 0.4 percentage points to 79.6%.

The airport operator stated that double-digit growth figures in passenger movements were registered by the Italian and French markets with gains of 23.5% and 13.4% respectively. The UK (+2.9%) and German (+1%) markets also registered growth during the month under review. Meanwhile, the Spanish market reported a decline of 0.3%.

During the first six months of the year, MIA registered a 9.2% increase in passenger movements to 1,726,486 – a record number of passenger movements for the first half of the year. This growth reflects the 7.6% increase in seat capacity to 2.3 million seats as well as a 1 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 75.1%.

The largest growth in passengers emanated from the Italian (+16.9%) and the French (+14.6%) markets. Passengers from the UK also grew by 5.5% during the first half of 2013 whilst those from Germany and Spain contracted by 2% and 8.5% respectively.
