Malta International Airport plc - July Traffic Results

On 5 August, Malta International Airport plc published the July 2013 traffic results. The statistics reveal a 5.8% increase in passenger movements to 471,210 – a record number of passenger movements for the month of July which is one of the peak months. The growth in passenger traffic in July 2013 was due to a 9% increase in seat capacity to 570,416 seats which offset the 2.5 percentage point decrease in the seat load factor to 82.6%.

The airport operator stated that double-digit growth figures in passenger movements were registered by the Italian market with a gain of 15.5%. The Spanish (+5.1%), German (+3.2%), the UK (+0.5%) and French (+0.3%) markets also registered growth during the month under review.

January to July 2013

During the first seven months of the year, MIA registered an 8.4% increase in passenger movements to 2,197,790 – a record number of passenger movements during this period. This growth reflects the 7.9% increase in seat capacity to 2.87 million seats as well as a 0.4 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 76.6%.

The largest growth in passengers emanated from the Italian (+16.6%) and the French (+11.1%) markets. Passengers from the UK also grew by 4.5% during the first seven months of 2013 whilst those from Germany and Spain contracted by 1% and 4.7% respectively.
