Malta International Airport plc - June Traffic Results

On 9 July, Malta International Airport plc announced its June traffic results revealing a 14.6% increase in passenger movements to a record of 663,088 passenger movements. The growth reflected the 15.1% increase in aircraft movements, a 14.4% increase in seat capacity as well as an unchanged seat load factor of 82.7%.

The announcement also noted that four out of the five top markets, namely UK (+14.6%), Italy (+18.9%), France (+17.8%) and Spain (+49.1% on the back of three new route to Malaga, Seville and Bilbao as well as increased frequency on the Barcelona route) registered growth whilst Germany was the only top market to register a 3% decline. The latter was due to a reduced schedule by TUI cruises.

January – June 2018

During the first six months of 2018, almost 3.07 million passenger movements were registered representing a 16.3% increase over the previous corresponding period. In January, MIA announced that it is expecting a further growth in passenger numbers of between 7% and 9% to around 6.5 million for the whole of 2018.
