Daily Market Highlights (15.10.10)

  • MSE Share Index up 0.1% today to 3,348.155 points as positive performances by MIA and Middlesea outweigh the declines in HSBC and Medserv. Another four active equities closed unchanged. Following today’s upturn, the Index ended the week minimally higher as the strong weekly gains registered by MIA, Middlesea and Farsons offset the negative weekly performance of HSBC, BOV, GO and three other equities.   • Central Bank of Malta Stockbroker lowers Malta Government Stocks bid prices today as the benchmark 10-year Eurozone yield regained the 2.33% level. Most notably the bid price of the 20-year paper declined by 37 points today to 103.01%. Trading activity in this stock also shrank to just over €500,000 this week in contrast to the €13 million (nominal) exchanged two weeks ago when its price was closer to its high of 104.66% (registered on 31 August).
  • Third consecutive positive session for MIA. The share price of the airport operator gains 1.2% to €1.558 across 12,030 shares. The recent gains pushed the equity 3.9% higher over the week. Details on the September passenger numbers available here.
  • Share price of Middlesea Insurance regains the €1.00 level for the first time since 22 September. A single trade of 2,000 shares transacted today with further offers unsatisfied at the closing price. The equity of the insurance company ended the week 5.3% higher.
  • HSBC edges minimally lower to close at €2.798 representing a 0.3% weekly decline. 10,000 shares change hands today with other offers outstanding at the last traded price whilst best bids still pitched at the €2.789 level.
  • BOV closes unchanged at the €3.24 level after recuperating from an intra-day low of €3.201 across eight trades totalling over 8,700 shares. Further offers unsatisfied at the closing price whilst best bids now placed at the €3.20 level. The Bank’s equity ended the week 0.9% lower ahead of the September full-year results publication expected by the end of October.
  • GO maintains the €1.84 level on volumes of over 30,000 shares. Another 15,000 shares on offer at the closing price whilst best bids still placed at the €1.81 level. The telecoms group closed the week 0.5% down.
  • Medserv closes 0.2% lower at €4.27 as it traded for the first time this week. Two trades amounting to 10,000 shares executed this morning with no bids in sight whilst other offers remained unsatisfied at the closing price.
  • Grand Harbour Marina and MaltaPost unchanged. 45,000 Grand Harbour Marina shares exchanged at the €1.96 level. The postal operator remains supported at the €0.90 level as another 11,457 shares changed hands.
