Malta International Airport plc - October Traffic Results

On 6 November Malta International Airport plc published the October 2009 traffic results. The statistics show a 0.9% drop in passenger departures during the month of October to 145,375 passengers (October 2008: 146,718). During the first ten months of 2009, passenger departures declined by 7.4% when compared to the same period in 2008, representing a decrease of 102,395 passengers.

In a media release, the airport operator said that passenger traffic for the main markets, namely UK, Italy and Spain increased by 0.2%, 19.6% and 31.6% respectively, whilst decreases were registered from Germany (-7.1%) and France (-1.6%).

Prior to the publication of the 2009 half-year results in July, MIA’s CEO Mr Julian Jaeger had revised downwards the traffic projection for 2009 from 5.5% to 6.8%.
