Malta International Airport plc - Waiving of Landing Fees

On 10 July, Malta International Airport plc announced that for the third consecutive year, it will be giving a full refund to all scheduled airlines on all their landing fees for the coming winter season covering the 5-month period between November 2013 and March 2014, in a bid to further stimulate traffic during the shoulder/winter months.

MIA’s CEO Markus Klaushofer explained that the waiving of landing fees in winter, a time which is particularly difficult for airlines, helps to alleviate the airlines’ fixed costs when flying to and from Malta. Furthermore, such measures also address the issue of seasonality which is so crucial to both the airport operator and the Maltese tourism industry.

This initiative forms part of MIA’s 2013 Incentive Programme for airlines which also includes incentives for new routes, strategic routes (with a focus on Eastern Europe), transfer traffic to promote Malta as a hub,  free parking to encourage night-stops in Malta as well as rebates on night surcharge to distribute passenger traffic.
