Malta International Airport plc - September Traffic Results

On 8 October, Malta International Airport plc published its September traffic results revealing an 8.6% increase in passenger movements to a monthly record of 502,823 passenger movements. The growth in passenger traffic in September could be attributed to an 8.5% increase in seat capacity and a marginal increase in the seat load factor to 85.8%.

The largest growth in September emanated from the Italian market with a 12.9% increase when compared to September 2014, followed by the 7.4% increase from the UK. On the other hand, passengers from Spain and Germany dropped by 10% and 4.4% respectively given a reduction in seat capacity on the Barcelona, Girona, Frankfurt and Munich seats. The French market also registered a marginal decrease of 1.5%.

The announcement also noted that traffic to and from Turkey has doubled during the month under review compared to September 2014 whilst passenger numbers from Switzerland and Poland have grown by 26% and 33% respectively.

These traffic results for the month of September represent the third consecutive month with more than 500,000 passenger movements, thereby creating a three month record of more than 1.6 million passenger movements during the summer period.
