Malta International Airport plc - February Traffic Results

On 4 March, Malta International Airport plc published the February 2016 traffic results revealing a further 13.3% increase in passenger movements to 236,631. The strong growth in February reflects a 5.2% increase in seat capacity, the undisclosed improvement in the seat load factor as well as the extra day given that 2016 is a leap year. Excluding the 8,421 passenger movements recorded on 29 February, the growth compared to the same month last year would have been +9.2%.

The announcement further explained that during the month under review, traffic from Italy increased by 20.6% on the back of the added flights to Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports. Additionally, Turkey registered an impressive growth of 41.7%.

On 19 January, MIA had announced that during 2016 it is expecting a further 2.4% growth in passenger numbers to yet another record of at least 4.73 million passenger movements on the back of additional routes from both existing and new airlines as well as increased frequencies on existing destinations.
