Malta International Airport plc - February Traffic Results
On 10 March 2023, Malta International Airport plc published the February 2023 traffic results. For the second consecutive month, passenger movements exceeded their relative 2019 figures as the February 2023 traffic of 379,073 passenger movements is 5.5% higher than the same month in 2019. The figure is almost double the movements registered in the same month last year. Nonetheless, the figure remains 10.1% below the record figure of 421,567 passenger movements of February 2020, which was the last month prior to the introduction of pandemic restrictions.
Meanwhile, the seat load factor for February 2023 stood at 82.6%, compared to 70.7% in February 2022, 52.5% in February 2021 and 75.8% in February 2020. The airport operator stated that the Carnival weekend registered peak activity with an average seat load factor of 88%.
MIA explained that Italy, UK, France, Germany, and Poland remained the top five markets.
MIA also referred to this week’s announcement of Airports Council International which observed that, in January 2023, European traffic had come closest to making a full recovery since the start of the pandemic.
