In aggregate, MIA welcomed 1,245,565 passengers in the first three months of this year, making it the busiest ever first quarter for the airport, exceeding the 1,202,983 passenger movements recorded during the same period in 2019.

Meanwhile, the seat load factor for March 2023 stood at 83.5%, compared to 68.4% in March 2022 and 81.3% in March 2019.

The airport operator explained that Italy, UK, Germany, France, and Poland remained the top five markets which, in aggregate, represented 63% of total traffic. However, MIA noted that while France, Italy and Poland have all exceeded their respective 2019 levels, the UK and Germany traffic still hasn’t recovered to pre-pandemic levels.

In conclusion, the airport operator stated that Malta’s connectivity with Germany will be further strengthened through three new routes within the newly launched summer flight schedule.
