Daily Market Highlights (04.01.10)

  • MSE Share Index kicks off 2010 with a positive performance on increased trading activity. Index jumps 0.4% to a fresh 14-month high of 3,473.378 points as BOV, HSBC, Middlesea and Crimsonwing trade higher. Meanwhile the other four active equities closed unchanged.   • Sustained demand for BOV shares help the share price rise a further 0.8% to €3.90 as investors gain exposure to the Bank’s equity ahead of the 1 for 4 bonus share issue to those members as at the close of trading on 12 January 2010. Activity remains high with just under 23,455 shares changing hands today.
  • HSBC also trades 0.6% higher to close at the €3.249 level – marginally below its 2009 high of €3.27. Only 2,587 shares exchanged during this morning’s session with best bids in the market at €3.23 whilst further offers remain unsatisfied at the closing price.
  • Middlesea shares edge minimally higher to regain the €0.805 level on volumes of over 18,100 shares. Best bids now placed at €0.80 whilst lowest offers pitched at the €0.83 level – 38.3% higher than the recent rights issue price of €0.60.
  • Crimsonwing’s share price rises by 2.6% to €0.40 on a single trade of 40,000 shares. Best bids still in the market at €0.251 with offers of 888 shares placed considerably higher at the €0.44 level.
  • Single trades also in GO and MaltaPost. 2,000 GO shares exchanged at the €2.10 level with further offers remaining unsatisfied at this level. The postal operator maintains the €0.70 level as 40,000 shares are exchanged.
  • IHI also unchanged at the €0.80 level on two trades amounting to 15,000 shares. Best bids now placed at €0.751 whilst lowest offers pitched at the €0.81 level.
  • 8,900 Simonds Farsons Cisk shares trade at the €1.70 level, unchanged from the previous close.
