Daily Market Highlights (12.09.16)

  • For the second consecutive session, the MSE Share Index trended higher with a further 0.1% increase to 4,429.281 points largely due to the positive movements in the equities of BOV, HSBC and GO. Medserv and Malta Properties also moved higher while IHI and Mapfre Middlesea fell. Meanwhile, a number of other equities ended today’s session unchanged.   • On the bond market, the RF MGS Index slipped 0.3% for the second consecutive session to an almost 4-week low of 1,165.094 points as Eurozone yields continued to trend upwards after the European Central Bank (ECB) did not inject additional stimulus. As a result, the 10-year German Bund yield has moved back into positive territory for the first time since late July 2016. Similarly, the 10-year yields of Italy and Spain also trended higher to reach fresh 7-week highs of around 1.3% and 1.1% respectively.
  • The share price of Bank of Valletta plc completely recovered last Friday’s decline with an equivalent 0.44% uplift to recapture the €2.26 level across ten deals totalling 11,426 shares.
  • Similarly, new bids lifted the share price of HSBC Bank Malta plc by 1.3% to €1.62 across fifteen deals totalling 68,360 shares.
  • GO plc also trended in positive territory today as it ended this morning’s session at the €3.15 level after recovering from an intra-day low of €3.10 across total volumes of 9,380 shares.
  • Positive movements also in the share price of Medserv plc as it recaptured the €1.585 level, representing a 1% increase over the previous closing price, on shallow volumes of 4,750 shares.
  • The only other positive performing equity was Malta Properties Company plc with a 3.9% jump to €0.54 on heightened volumes of 104,809 shares.
  • On the other hand, the share price of International Hotel Investments plc slipped 2.5% back to the €0.624 level on a single trade of 3,384 shares.
  • Similarly, Mapfre Middlesea plc retreated by 1.4% back to the €2.07 level across an insignificant trade of 130 shares.
  • Meanwhile, no changes in the share price of Malta International Airport plc at the €4.25 level on volumes of 6,669 shares.
  • RS2 Software plc reached an intra-day high of €1.68 before easing back to the €1.64 level representing no change from the previous closing price. A total of 18,252 shares changed hands across eight deals.
  • No changes also in FIMBank plc as a further 30,000 shares changed hands during this morning’s session at the USD0.915 level.
  • A single trade of 6,000 Simonds Farsons Cisk plc shares was executed at the equity’s all-time high of €6.50 representing no change from the previous closing price.
  • Likewise, Malita Investments plc held on to its previous closing price of €0.87 after rebounding from an intra-day low of €0.86 across a total of 17,500 shares.
