Daily Market Highlights (21.10.10)

  • MSE Share Index edges 0.1% higher today to close at 3,344.558 points. Share price recovery in BOV and MIA offset the declines in HSBC and Lombard. On the other hand, GO, IHI and Crimsonwing close unchanged. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.

  • Central Bank of Malta Stockbroker bid prices for Malta Government Stocks revised lower as the Eurozone 10-year benchmark yield hits the 2.45% level. Sharpest declines recorded in the 5.5% MGS 2023 (I) with a 51 basis point reduction to 113.37%.
  • Further volatility in BOV shares ahead of the Bank’s full-year results publication on Friday 29 October. Equity eases to an intra-day low of €3.21 before recovering to a close of €3.23, 0.3% higher than the previous closing price. Over 23,700 shares change hands today with few other bids unsatisfied at the last traded price whilst lowest offers now placed at the €3.24 level.
  • HSBC also slips to an intra-day low of €2.78 but failed to completely recoup the decline and closes minimally lower at the €2.794 level. Nine trades amounting to 13,880 shares executed this morning with further offers outstanding at the last traded price.
  • Further demand for MIA shares helps the equity rise 2.6% today to regain the €1.60 level on lack of supply below this price. A total of 15,220 shares trade this morning with other bids amounting to almost 12,300 shares placed at the closing price whilst lowest offers now placed at the €1.62 level.
  • Lombard’s share price slumps a further 1.9% lower to €2.60 – its lowest level since November 2009. A single trade of 1,460 shares transacted today with further offers placed at €2.644 whilst best bids pitched substantially lower at the €2.00 level.
  • GO maintains the 1.1% increase registered so far this week as another 17,216 shares trade at the €1.86 level. A further 9,800 shares on offer remain unsatisfied at the closing price whilst best bids now placed at the €1.82 level.
  • IHI hangs on to the €0.80 level across three trades amounting to 24,500 shares. Best bids still in the market at €0.72 whilst lowest offers pitched at the €0.90 level.
  • Crimsonwing fails to recover from yesterday’s 16.7% plunge as a further 16,100 shares change hands at the 2010 low of €0.35. Best bids still at €0.30 whilst lowest offers placed at the €0.42 level.
