Daily Market Highlights (27.09.10)

  • In contrast to the recovery being registered in international stock markets, the local equity market closed this morning’s session in negative territory. MSE Share Index wiped last Friday’s 0.4% rise as the Index slipped 0.5% back to 3,363.485 points. Today’s downturn was due to the declines in the Index heavyweights HSBC and IHI which offset the gains in the other large caps BOV and GO. Download a copy of today’s Equity Market Summary.
  • HSBC reversed last week’s gains as the Bank’s share price eased 0.5% back to the €2.84 level on volumes of almost 11,200 shares. Further bids remained unsatisfied at the closing price whilst lowest offers now pitched at the €2.85 level.
  • Meanwhile BOV continued to build on last week’s positive performance with a further 0.3% increase to close at the €3.24 level. Seven trades totalling 5,008 shares with best bids now placed at €3.161 whilst other offers still outstanding at the last traded price.
  • IHI succumbed to fresh sell orders as its share price dropped 2.4% back to the €0.81 level on low volumes of 1,242 shares. Wednesday is the deadline for investors wishing to dispose their bonus share entitlement to the Company at the nominal value of €1.00.
  • After two sessions of inactivity, GO’s shares closed 0.5% higher at €1.85 after recovering from a new 2010 low of €1.80. Five deals amounting to 7,633 shares executed this morning with best bids now in the market at €1.80 whilst few other offers pitched at the closing price.
  • MIA minimally closed marginally lower at €1.52 on volumes of 14,780 shares. Further bids unsatisfied at the last traded price whilst lowest offers pitched at the €1.56 level.
  • 1,800 Medserv shares traded unchanged at the €4.28 level across two trades.
  • On the alternative companies list, Loqus Holdings was active for the first time in over a month. A single trade of 875 shares transacted today at the €0.32 level compared to the previous closing price of €0.20.
