Malta International Airport plc - April Traffic Statistics

On 4 May, Malta International Airport plc published the April 2011 traffic results. The statistics reveal an increase of 25.3% in passenger movements to 300,123 during April mainly due to a record seat capacity which reached 400,000 seats – a 13.3% increase over the same month in 2010. This is the highest level of passenger movements ever registered during the month of April. The airport operator explained that the significant variance between passenger movements during April 2011 when compared to April 2010 is also due to the fact that last year’s figures were negatively affected by the volcanic ash disruption.

MIA reported that the German, French, UK and Spanish markets grew remarkable in April, by 45.3%, 34.5%, 31.7% and 25.8% respectively while the Italian market suffered a decrease of 0.4%.

MIA stated that during the first four months of the year passenger movements climbed by 19.2% with aircraft movements registering an increase of 13.1% over the same period last year. The seat capacity increased by 15.5%.

During 2010, MIA registered a 12.8% increase in passenger movements to a new record of 3.29 million passenger movements and the company expects to maintain this record level during 2011.
