Malta International Airport plc - June Traffic Results

On 4 July, Malta International Airport plc published the June 2012 traffic statistics. Following the increases registered in April (+1.4%) and May (+5.8%), MIA registered a further 8.5% increase during the month of June to a record level of 375,204 passengers. This rise was due to the combined increases in aircraft movements of 4.7%, seat capacity of 5.3% and a 2.4 percentage point increase in the seat load factor to 79.4%.

During the first six months of 2012, passenger movements increased by 1.6% over the first half of 2011 to reach a record 1.58 million despite the decline in aircraft movements and seat capacity of 2.8% and 3.1% respectively compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, the seat load factor improved by 3.5 percentage points to 74.1% during the first half of 2012. MIA explained that the German market registered the highest growth during the first six months of 2012 with an 11.5% rise in passenger numbers. France and the United Kingdom also registered increases of 2.1% and 1.4% respectively. Meanwhile the Spanish and Italian registered declines of 7% and 7.5% respectively.
